Hi Pete,
I wanted to ask you what the best mattress would be for my husband, who is a big man.
He has a bad back and also bad knees and bad shoulders.
We have bought the foam mattresses and not had good luck at all.
In fact the company replaced one of them due to it making a dip in the mattress.
It would feel like you’re falling into a hole. Then we bought a Serta set. They replaced 2 of those.
The whole top of the mattress on my husbands side would bunch up.
The insides were coming loose and it would all bunch up together in spots.
Then, we got a mattress with springs in it and it just had the foam padding on top to cushion.
It is now bunching up too. We are moving soon and going to a king size bed instead of a queen.
My son had told me about you and said to contact you before we purchase another mattress and have problems.
I wanted to see what you would recommend. We have always had waterproof mattress pads on all the beds.
My husband has had time periods where some of the medication he’s taking has made him sweat.
I didn’t know if that was part of the problem, but like I said we’ve always had the mattress pads on.
We would sure appreciate any help you can give us to avoid having problems again.
Mattresses are so expensive and then to have issues is really discouraging.
I sure hope you can help us.
Oh also, I don’t know if you need this information, but my husband weighs about 250 and is 6’ tall.
Thank you, Shirley
Hi Shirley,
Most of today's mattresses, have built into them, planned obsolescence.
They wear poorly and are designed to need frequent replacing under average body weight.
Much less so, under a big man.
Here is a recent write up, that will help you understand why your efforts, thus far, have been unsuccessful.
Furthermore, an all foam mattress, regardless of quality, is the absolute wrong support for anyone with a bad back.
A foam mattress does not provide the pushback support against the spine, that is crucial for proper spinal support.
The mattress to get, is The Natura of Canada Greenspring Ultra Plush.
Shown here:
This mattress uses a pre-compressed, individually pocketed coil system
This coil unit maintains the natural alignment of the spine, which will relieve his back pain.
The coil count is very high and the steel used to make the coils, is double tempered for extra durability.
What's more, the upholstery is Natural Talalay Latex. (There is NO Memory Foam in these mattresses).
All of the mattresses, on this page, provide the same firm contouring support.
The"Ultra Plush" model is recommended to relieve pressure at the shoulder and hip...providing a deeper night's sleep.
My wife and I sleep on this mattress. We are each well over 200 lbs.
We've had their ultra plush mattress for 4+ years, and it is, still, in like new condition.
I have had many back problems, for quite a few years...Bulging and Herniated discs, and DDD Degenerative Disc Disease). Despite all that, I sleep and wake without back pain.
You can order that mattress through this link:
These mattresses come with white glove delivery.
Delivery is free and there's no sales tax.
Delivery includes set-up on your bed frame and removal of your old mattress and removal of all packaging materials.
If you want a high quality mattress to support a big man, relieve his pain, and last you for many years, this would be an excellent choice....getting you out of that buying and rebuying revolving door.
VERY IMPORTANT:
Keeping your mattress clean and dry will increase longevity.
Use our Organic Cotton Waterproof Mattress Protector.
Thanks, Pete
