Hi TME,
We presently sleep on a Simmons Beautyrest which is about 10 years old and needs replacing.
My husband is 6 ft. 200 lbs. and I am 5'8" 215 lbs. We like firm but are wondering if the Ultra Firm will be too hard.
The Luxury Firm models seems to have too much give for us.
Also, we prefer a mattress that has latex foam and not memory foam.
Is this a good choice for larger people like us? I have arthritis flare ups sometimes and wonder about Ultra firm and pressure points.
Thank you for your help. Marianne
Hi Marianne,
Simmons was sold, shortly after you bought yours.
Today, a Beautyrest mattress is upholstered with chemical based memory foam that sleeps hot and wears poorly.
The Natura of Canada Greenspring Mattress in Firm is where to start, if you like a firm feel.
These mattresses are specifically designed to hold up well for many years under heavier people.
(My wife and I, who each weigh more than 200 lbs., have been sleeping on their Ultra Plush model for the last 12 years, and it’s still in excellent condition.)
It has no memory foam. It’s upholstered with Natural Talalay Latex.
If you find their firm model to be too firm, you can add a soft 2" latex topper to it,
which would make the surface more comfortable, without sacrificing the underlying firm support.
I recommend waiting until after the mattress arrives before deciding on a topper.
