Pillowtop vs. Tight Top Mattresses.

Natalie writes:

Hello Pete,

I recently went to a mattress store and did the bed test.

I am listed as green.

Can you give some suggestions that would be good?

I currently have a pillow top mattress and do not want another one.

I was shown an expensive mattress.

How does a pillow top differ from tight top?

Thanks, Natalie

Hi Natalie

Green is a nice color...depending on the shade, of course.

It means absolutely nothing when it comes to buying a mattress.

The machine, that told you that you are green, is only a sales tool.

It's made to appear to be a diagnostic tool. It is not.

Its purpose is to make it easier for the salesman to sell you a mattress and has nothing, at all, to do with what you need... nor what mattress is best for you… just what’s best for the store.

It’s a tool that is designed to give the impression, albeit a false one, that you will be shown a mattress that the salesperson knows is right for you… usually an expensive one. It’s  all a bunch of hooey.

A tight top is a mattress that simply doesn’t have the separate pillow part on top.

HI Pete,

Thank you for your quick response.

I’m 35, 5’ 4” and 135 lbs. I usually wake up with some lower back pain that goes away after I’m up and about.

I look forward to your recommendation.

Thanks again, Natalie.

Hi Natalie,

You’ll be surprised by how little you need to spend, given your age, size and physical pain that’s being caused by your Pillowtop mattress.

You’re sinking too far into that pillowtop, which is causing your morning back pain.

I have 2 recommendations for you.

The more expensive of the 2 is a bit more substantial.

However, at your age and size, the lesser expensive is all you need.
