Back Ache on a Tempurpedic Mattress.

Mary writes:

Hi Pete,

My friend has purchased several mattresses from you, over the last couple of decades, and says you are the go to guy.

Presently, we have a Tempurpedic which hubby loves because of his acid reflux (mechanical bed) but I get a back ache.

Two questions:

Is there anything I can do to my extra long twin side to remedy that situation? Secondly, we need a new bed to go into a different home.

Any recommendations?

My back seldom bothers me, but I am getting older, 64 & 160 lbs.

The Temperpedic seems to aggravate my back and I still want to sleep with him. Help this 42 year marriage.

Thanks, Mary

Hi Mary,

You may have a very easy fix for that.

It’s the memory foam that’s on top of your mattress that’s causing your back pain. Memory foam allows you to sink into it, which throws off the natural alignment of your body and spine.

Take your mattress and flip it over. The underside is firm polyurethane foam, which won’t allow your body to sink.

It’s very likely to be too firm for comfort, so just add a 2” or 3” Soft Organic and Hypoallergenic Latex Topper for extraordinary comfort that lasts for years, creating the feeling that you’re floating.

Latex for Less has the lowest prices on the highest quality latex mattress toppers.

For your other home, a mattress with individually pocketed coils for support and pure, organic latex upholstery, is my recommendation.

The PlushBeds Luxury Bliss Mattress in Medium or Medium Firm is the way to go…shown here:

AND…

You never want to put a new mattress on an old foundation.

The mattress won’t feel or wear as it should due to weak spots that develop in an old foundation.

And, doing so will void the warranty of any mattress.

If you need a new boxspring/foundation, I recommend the Magniflex KD Foundation, which comes in your choice of height, 5” or 8”, and in your choice of color…black, brown or gray.

They’re very strong and assemble easily with no tools needed.

They are upholstered foundations, a bit dressy, but reasonably priced.

Also recommended is a waterproof mattress protector, which prevents perspiration from seeping into the upholstery materials.

Keeping your mattress clean and dry and will enhance the longevity of your mattress and keep it odor free.
