A Mattress to Relieve Low-Back Pain.

Hi Pete,

I'm in my mid-70's, have had two knee replacements, a reverse shoulder replacement and am about to have surgery for a torn gluteus medius tendon in my hip.  Plus I have low-back pain.  

I'm a side sleeper and have an adjustable extra-long twin bed.  

I ache all the time.  My bed is too firm and lying on my side, pressure points, like the trochanter muscle, hurt.


I just realized my current mattress is OLD - a Simmons we bought in 2006! My brother recently bought a Sealy Posturepedic Highpoint Plush mattress and he loves it. Says he no longer has aches and pains.  I think this is a hybrid? Coils and some foam? I can't imagine buying a mattress without first trying it out to compare.  

Are the brands you recommend sold in stores too?

I don’t think that I can be of much help to you…other than suggesting that you buy a soft latex topper for the mattress you have.
