Hi Pete,
I am so glad I found your website and I hope that you can provide some helpful advice.
I have a 2002 Simmons Beautyrest World Class West Hampshire extra firm pillowtop mattress that I’m looking to replace.
I am in search of a new Beautyrest that is not as firm and will provide support to my back and neck. I do like the pillowtop feature.
Any models you can recommend would be helpful.
Best regards, Kelly
Hi Kelly
You’re assuming that Simmons is still making high quality, long lasting mattresses. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Much has changed during this 22 year time warp, from which you are emerging.
Simmons was sold to an investment group in 2016.
That same investment group also bought Serta.
In 2002, Simmons was using polyurethane and latex foams, mostly.
They were just beginning to use memory foam.
However, the memory foam they used was much more resilient, much less temperature sensitive and cured, so that it didn’t off gas the toxic chemicals from which memory foam was made….none, of which, is true today.
The pillowtop part of any of today’s mattresses will be the first thing to wear. A removable mattress topper is the way to achieve the same feel, but with the ability to replace it far less expensively than replacing the whole mattress.
We carry no mattresses with memory foam in them, nor pillowtops on them.
We stopped selling Simmons 8 years ago, due to the great reduction in quality.
If you would like a recommendation, I have some questions for you.
What are the ages of those using the mattress?
What are the sizes, heights and weights?
Do you have any physical ailments that need to be addressed?
Thanks, Pete - TME

Hi Pete,
I appreciate your quick response and information.
Female in 60's in good physical shape/health 5'2" at 128 lbs.
I believe since the center of current king mattress is sagging that I now wake up with hip pain and upper back pain that feels achy in the morning but then goes away.
I slept on a friend's guest bed which was a Serta Hybrid. I woke up so refreshed. Probably because it was a new mattress compared to mine. However I do not like that company.
Let me know if you need any other information.
Thanks again, Kelly
Hi Kelly,
Your size mitigates in your favor.
There’s no need to spend a lot of money to get a good night’s sleep.
Serta and Simmons are now one company. Neither is worth buying.
The memory foam upholstery remains comfortable in very short order, if used consistently.
The PlushBeds Luxury Bliss Mattress in Medium, is my recommendation.
The coil system, individually pocketed, is the same as what you’ve been using.
The upholstery is superior…Pure, Organic and Hypoallergenic Latex, which has been the best (most comfortable/longest lasting) for the past 100+ years.
Firm, contouring support with a comfortable sleeping surface that feels like your floating…that will last you for many years to come.
It comes with a 100 Night Trial Period. AND, it’s currently On Sale.
Here’s the link where can view that mattress and place your order.

You never want to put a new mattress on an old foundation.
Doing so will void the warranty of any mattress.
If you need a new boxspring/foundation, I recommend the Magniflex KD Foundation, which comes in your choice of height, 5” or 8”, and in your choice of color…black, brown or gray.
They’re very strong and assemble easily with no tools needed.
They are upholstered foundations, a bit dressy, but reasonably priced.

Also recommended is a waterproof mattress protector, which prevents perspiration from seeping into the upholstery materials.
Keeping your mattress clean and dry and odor free will enhance longevity.
The Sleep & Beyond Organic Cotton Waterproof Mattress Protector is my recommendation…the one we use at home.
It sleeps cool and works well.
