Sciatica and upper back pain on a too firm mattress.

Hi Pete,
My wife and I are fairly heavy (approx 200 lbs each). 
I get sciatica and my wife gets upper back pain on a mattress that’s too firm. 
So, in the past, we’ve ordered soft plush mattresses. 
We’ve gone from a Simmons to a Kluft and finally a Wink bed. 
The mattresses are plush and feel nice for about a year then they begin to sag and get the hump in the middle. Which causes a different kind of back pain. Can you recommend a Cal. King that will be durable and provide the plush support we require? Prefer the feel of a traditional mattress as well. Flippable is also a plus.

Because there is now more of a demand for old-fashioned quality, both Simmons and Serta have begun to make a two-sided mattress. However, they only provide the perception of quality.
Both companies have been sold to the same investment group that isn’t concerned with quality…just profits.
The problem you’ve been having will continue with any mattress made by either of those brands, along with all of the other so-called Name Brands. They’ve all been sold.
We do carry an all-latex mattress that’s flippable, but any all-foam mattress won’t relieve your back pain, if those pains are caused by worn discs, which your sciatica indicates.
For that, you need the pushback support of an innerspring…specifically, an individually pocketed coil system, which is designed to maintain the natural alignment of the body and spine.
For larger people, that support needs to be firm for the sake of longevity.
The upholstery is also an important factor.

Due to the high coil count with coils made of heavy gauge double-tempered steel, and due to the high resiliency of the latex foam, it’s nowhere near as soft as it sounds.
Due to my wife’s sensitive hip, we had to add a softer topper.

I recommend that you not consider a topper now, but wait until you’ve had a chance to sleep on this mattress before determining if a topper is even necessary.
