I purchased a 3" Talalay Natural Latex Topper in SOFT, 14 ILD rating from Plushbeds.

It received over 1000 5 star reviews. I don't understand, there is nothing soft about this mattress topper.

I thought maybe they made a mistake and sent me the wrong topper, but they say they did not.

I ended up just taking it off of my bed.

What are your thoughts?

Hi Laura,

3” of 14 ILD latex should feel very soft and comfortable.

Something’s wrong.

I wonder who’s processing the latex they’re selling.

A lot of today’s lesser expensive latex is processed in China, where anything could happen.

The sap from the rubber tree, comes from major groves in Sri Lanka and Malaysia.

The processing plant is where the sap is turned into latex foam rubber.

It could be processed anywhere.

There are different processes and variable degrees of softnesses and firmnesses.

And being a natural material, there's almost always a variance from batch to batch.

The 14 ILD made today could be slightly different in feel from the 14 ILD made next week.

You can't rule out human error...entered into the computer incorrectly or mislabeled.

If it was a mistake, it’s a tough fight without getting caring cooperation from your retailer.

Another possibility exists.

It could be a question of perception.

Latex is the most resilient upholstery material available.

If you’re not familiar with the unique feel that latex provides, (the feeling that you’re floating...being more "on" it than "in" it),

you could very well find it to feel firmer than you expected, compared to other types of foams.
