Hi Pete,
I am 5’2” and weigh 150. My husband is a big man, 6’ 3" and weighs 300 lbs.
We need a new mattress, yet again! We need a mattress that lasts more than just a year or two.
But I also need one that keeps me from being bounced around when he moves.
We have a king bed and I would like to keep using it, but I’m thinking we need two twins.
Can I make this work and with what brand?
Thanks, NancyHi Nancy,
2 Twin-XL Mattresses equals a king size...and is your best option for such a large weight difference.
There's no doubt that a mattress under a 300 lb. person will wear out faster than that same mattress under a person half that weight. Going with a split king, (2 Twin-XL), will allow you to replace only one when needed.
My recommendation is for the Wolf Jessica Mattress and a Suite Sleep 2" Soft Organic Dunlop Latex Topper.
The mattress has a Luxury Firm feel, using a strong, individually pocketed coil for contouring support.
The latex topper does two jobs...Softening the surface for comfort...Adding years to the life of the mattress.
High Quality Latex is an has been the most resilient upholstery material for the last 100 years.
It will absorb much of his body weight and all of yours.
This results in only having to replace the latex topper in a few years on his side...and not the mattress.

Using an old box spring to support any new mattress will cause premature wear and void the manufacturer’s warranty.
A waterproof mattress protector will extend the life of a mattress by keeping the upholstery materials clean and dry.
