A mattress for a male with degenerative disc disease.

Hi Pete,

I have enjoyed exploring your website for a mattress.
I am a 66 year old male, 220 pounds, 6’1”, with degenerative disc disease.
My wife is 67 years old, about the same weight and height.
We are both side sleepers.  Ironically, I grew up with a Wolf mattress, and due to allergies, also earlier, a latex mattress.  These were both over 50 years ago though…What might you recommend and why? Thanks in advance for your advice.-Jon
Good Morning, Jon.
Wolf has been making mattresses since 1873.
Latex has been the best upholstery material for the last 100 years.
Today, no all foam mattress will provide the proper support to an aging body.
As we age, the discs in our backs wear…the primary cause of back pain.
No all foam mattress, not even latex will provide the pushback support necessary to keep your spine in its proper alignment.
It’s in maintaining your natural alignment that relieves chronic back pain.
My recommendation comes in two parts.
Thedegenerative disc disease or the Wolf Two Sided Mattresses in Firm.
All of these mattresses have the support your spine requires.
All of them use the same coil unit, the same heavy gauge double tempered steel.
All of them will hold up well under a big man for many years.
The Jessica Mattress is one sided and only needs to be rotated regularly.
The two sided mattresses need to be flipped regularly.
Here are links to both types of mattresses.

Add to any of them, a plush latex mattress topper for the surface comfort a side sleeper will need to sleep deeply.
The Natura of Canada brand is an excellent value.

Thanks, Pete
Never:
Use an old box spring/foundation with any new mattress.
Doing so voids the warranty of the mattress.
Always:
Use a waterproof mattress protector.
Your new mattress will last longer if kept clean and dry.
