Hi Joan,
The hump up the middle is the part of the mattress that remains like new, while each of the sides compress under your body weights.
The softer the support and/or surface comfort layers are, the more dramatic the hump up the middle will appear to be.
Subsequently, the firmer the mattress is, the less dramatic the hump.
Unfortunately, the firmer the mattress, the less comfortable it will be.
So, there’s always some degree of compromise when it comes to this…especially when you’re relying on a mattress only for both, support and comfort.
The best way to deal with this so that you have both, a comfortable sleeping surface and a minimal hump in the center, is with a 2 part sleep system, consisting of a firm mattress and a soft latex mattress topper.
