Hi Pete,
My husband and I are looking for a new mattress to replace a Simmons Beautyrest world class Granite plush Mattress (at least 15 years old) which actually was pretty firm.
We bought a Sealy Deveraux Prime six years ago for the guest bedroom, which is sort of a medium firm.
My husband will start out on the Simmons and end up on the Sealy.
The Sealy is okay for me but I get too hot in it.
My husband is 5’10” 190lbs. I am 5’2” 135 lbs. with double hip replacement.
He has lower back pain and shoulder pain.
We are looking for a king size mattress that merges the Simmons and the Sealy and doesn’t sleep hot.
Any suggestions?
Thanks, Laura
Hi Laura,
Shipping is free and there’s no sales tax.
There have been dramatic, not for the better, changes in the mattress industry since you bought your Simmons.
The Sealy mattress you bought is a poor quality mattress, which you aren’t like to be aware of, given that it’s been in a guest bedroom.
The reason why the Sealy mattress sleeps hot is due to the memory foam upholstery.
Memory foam is a temperature sensitive material that softens as it warms from your body heat.
It absorbs that heat and reflects it back to you.
Sleeping hot is but only one of the negative side effects of memory foam.
Its main purpose is to cause a mattress to need frequent replacing.
If you had used that mattress in your master bedroom, you would have had to replace it by now…and likely for the second time.
Your Simmons mattress has no memory foam in it…which is why it has lasted as long as it has.
You bought that Simmons mattress at a time when it was difficult to buy a bad mattress.
Since then, all of the name brands have been sold to investors who are now using memory foam for the purpose of enhancing profits.
Today, it’s equally difficult to find a good mattress…because of the memory foam.
We had been a Sealy/S&F dealer for many years prior to those companies being sold to Tempurpedic in 2013. We stopped selling them at that time.
A separate investment group bought both, Simmons and Serta.
These changes in the industry sent us to the trade shows to find high quality alternative mattresses that contain no memory foam.
The mattress I’m recommending for you and your husband is based on your sizes.
The Wolf Tulah Plush Eurotop Mattress is being used by a few of my family members, including my mother-in-law who is not the kind of person you want to see angry.
She’s sleeping without pain for the 1st time in years, she told me.
Here is a link to that mattress.
As you’ll see, it doesn’t have a matching foundation.
Those and a bed frame can be had at Costco, Sam’s Club or Big Lots at very reasonable prices.
If you want a matching set, we carry a higher quality line of mattresses that has that.
Due to our larger sizes, we sleep on the Natura of Canada Greenspring Ultra Plush Mattress.

While it isn’t necessary to spend that much at your weights, higher quality always pays for itself in the long run.
Both mattresses use the same type of coil system as is in your Simmons Beautyrest.
So, the support will be the same.
Neither sleep hot, as there’s no memory foam in these, nor in any mattress offered on our website.
Thanks, Pete
VERY IMPORTANT:
Keeping your mattress clean and dry will increase its longevity.
We recommend our Organic Cotton Waterproof Mattress Protector.
