Back Pain on a Restonic Barbados Latex Mattress.

Donna writes:

Hi Pete,
My husband is 190 pounds and sleeps in a bed alone.
He has been sleeping on a Restonic latex mattress, Barbados, for 3 years.
His has back pain when he gets up.
It originally was on a platform and I added a slim profile box spring last November for him. It did not help that much.
He recently slept on a Beautyrest Hospitality collection, St. Chapelle 360 Plush mattress at a new Holiday Inn Express.
The first morning at the Holiday Inn, he said, “ My back does not hurt on this mattress!”
When I told him about your blog, he was less enthusiastic about that Beautyrest.
I think maybe he thought you would only recommend THAT mattress for him.
Let me know what you suggest!
Thanks, Donna

Hi Donna,
Your husband has some disc problems in his back.
An all foam mattress, even the best of them, (latex) does not provide the pushback support to the spine that is necessary to relieve the pain from that kind of back problem.

The Beautyrest does, but it’s not terribly long lasting.
What that Beautyrest has, in an individually pocketed coil unit, which contours the the shape of the body and maintains the natural alignment of the spine.

I’m recommending one of the Wolf pocketed coil Hybrid mattresses.
Both have latex upholstery and double tempered steel coils.
Either one is much better made than anything Simmons is producing today.

Both are comfortable, with the Tulah model a bit more so than the Adara.
At his size, either is plenty durable.
If he is a back or stomach sleeper, the Adara would be the better choice.
If he is a side sleeper, the Tulah model will be better for the pressure points at the shoulder and hip.

Here is a link to those mattresses:

Continue to use the foundation you bought.

Shipping is free and there’s no sales tax.

We recommend using a waterproof mattress protector with every mattress.
Keeping the upholstery materials clean and dry will extend the life of the mattress.

Thanks, Pete
