Dear Pete,
Your blog has convinced me that I am not nuts in having such a hard time picking a mattress after my last two Serta mattresses went belly-up in no time at all. (6 months for the icomfort).
I have questions for you, though.
You recommend the Beautyrest Gibson Grove, but reviews on it indicates it has gel memory foam.
Don't you recommend using mattresses with latex instead of memory foam?
Is there anywhere to try the Natura of Canada Greenspring mattress?
I can't reconcile spending that much on a mattress that I have not lain on.
Thanks, Pete.
Not only for answering my questions, but for helping everyone to understand why purchasing mattresses are such a big pain in the neck anymore.
Peggy
Hi Peggy,
Thanks, Pete
Which mattress I’d recommend will depend on a number of factors.
What are the sizes of the people who will be using the mattress...(heights and weights)?
What are the ages?
List any and all physical ailments.
Simmons is the only name brand mattress where the memory foam doesn’t off gas toxic chemicals.
The other effects of the memory foam can be overcome with a latex topper...which we always recommend using with a Simmons Beautyrest.
A female’s needs are, quite often, different from men.
The Beautyrests have properties that are unique and usually more beneficial for small to average size women.
We only carry a few of their models, as most of what they make fail as quickly as your Sertas did.
Let’s see where we are with those questions I asked, before getting too far ahead of ourselves.

Thank you, Pete, for your immediate response.
I am looking for a king size mattress to accommodate my husband (6 ft. 215 lbs) and myself (5 ft. 4 in. 125 lbs.)
The only noteworthy ailments are some back/neck pain for myself, but maybe a new mattress will change that.
We are in our early seventies.
Thanks again for your help, Peggy
Hi Peggy,
You have two good options.
The strongest and most durable, is the Natura of Canada Greenspring.
Of them, the Ultra Plush model is the most comfortable..and the one we have at home.
Due to the higher coil count, the double tempered steel used to make the coils, and the resiliency of the latex, these mattresses are all firmer than they sound.
If you like a firmer feel, this mattress is superior in quality than option #2...The Simmons Beautyrest and Latex Topper combination....and the way to go.
My concern is for you....light in weight, slender build, which translates to far less pressure being placed on the mattress.
Many females seem to develop a sensitive hip as they get older.
If you are a side sleeper, you may find option #1 to provide less comfort than you need.
The coils in the Simmons Beautyrest are made of non-tempered steel, which isn’t as firm as the Natura Greenspring.
Also, the memory foam isn’t as resilient as latex.
Adding a plush latex topper to a Beautyrest mattress causes the mattress to last far longer than it would on its own.
The latex topper absorbs your body weight and insulates you from the memory foam in the mattress.
The recommended mattress is the Simmons Beautyrest Platinum Series Gibson Grove Luxury Firm.
The Topper is Pure Bliss 3” Plush Natural Talalay Latex.
Here are links for those items.
I know you’ll be happy with the performance and durability of either.
The Beautyrest/Topper combination should give you 10 years.
(My son and his wife, and my mother in law has this sleep system combination).
The Natura of Canada Greenspring will last longer, but be firmer.
Both provide the same type of support.
The better choice depends on your idea of comfort.
Both mattresses come with white glove delivery, which includes set up and removal of your old mattress.
The latex topper arrives via UPS.
Delivery is free and there’s no sales tax.
Thanks, Pete
