Simmons Beautyrest Signature Plush, Westbury Plush, or Black Napa Pillowtop Mattress?

Jeff writes:

Hi Pete.
I have the same question as the one in the post, below.
I have the choice of a Signature plush, Westbury plush, and the black Napa pillowtop mattress.
I'm looking for a medium firm to more firm option.
The Napa was recommended by you but looks to be on the softer side?
Thanks, Jeff Hi Jeff,
That post is more than a couple of years old.
And while the Black Series has the strongest coil unit of all the Beautyrests, the memory foam upholstery used in every model, will cause all of their mattresses to wear quickly.

The Napa was not a recommendation, but the answer to a simple question.
Unfortunately, there’s nothing simple about buying a mattress.

All of the name brands have been sold to investors.
All name brand mattresses are now made for high profit.
The quality that use to be their hallmark no longer exists.

If you would like a recommendation, I’ll need your stats.
(Sizes, ages, physical ailments of the people using the mattress.)
Thanks, Pete

Hi Pete,
I'm in western Canada.
A friend has a company promo for family and friends on those hotel line models.
I'm looking for a medium firm option.
The other two, besides the Napa, seemed like they had a firmer rating. I just wanted to confirm.
I've been bridging the gap with a sears mattress that has been firm and a great sleep.
It's probably old enough that the quality had held up.
Any recommendations would be appreciated.
Thanks, Jeff

Hi Jeff,
Both, Simmons and Sealy, make mattresses for hotels differently from those they make for retail stores.
The hotel mattresses are made without memory foam.
These mattresses are not available at any retail store.

Buying these brands through a hotel is the only way to buy them and still have reasonable expectations of longevity.

Get a luxury firm, not plush, as the coils in their firmer models are made with a heavier gauge wire. A luxury firm pillowtop will give you the balance of firm support and a comfortable sleeping surface.

Going to the extra expense of a Black Series model is only necessary for larger, heavier weight people.
Thanks, Pete

Hi Pete.
These were the only 3 models available for us in this offer.
Avoiding the plush, the Black sounds like the way to go, due to the spring design? I'm 5'10 210 lbs.
It's unfortunate that these companies are making a far lower quality product.
I appreciate your help.
Thanks, Jeff

Hi Jeff, at your size, the Black is the better long term value.
Enjoy.

Thanks, Pete
