A Mattress to Relieve Back Pain from DDD and Bulging Disc.

Hi Pete,

I am 5'5 and weigh 150 pounds. 
I have DDD, degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis and L4, L5, and S1 with bulging disc. 
My low back is in pain upon waking up in the morning. It is difficult to get out of bed. 
My husband is 6'2 and weighs 250 pounds. 
He has neck pain from flying long distances and some arthritis in cervical vertebrates. 
What is your recommendations for the best mattress for us?

Hi Mary,
The support your new mattress provides, will need to be firm enough to hold a 250 man without sagging, and firm enough to prevent your bulging discs from herniating.
Both of you will also need a soft sleeping surface to relieve pressure points and relax your muscles...with upholstery material that won't flatten out on you...as memory foam does so easily.
Most stores that you can walk into, are pushing mattresses that have lots of memory foam...not because it's good, but because it sells. In fact, "making the sale" is about all it's good for.

Given the weight and the severity of the back problems, you will first need a very firm mattress for the support.
