Sealy Posturepedic Mattress and Memory Foam Topper Causing Severe Backaches.

Hi Pete,

Thank goodness there is someone like you out there!
I stumbled across your blog and website, and I am begging you for your help!
I have a Sealy Posturepedic firm mattress and a memory foam topper.
This mattress is 3 months old and we are waking up with severe backaches.
The backaches are so bad, it makes us feel sick. We don’t normally suffer with backaches.
The only problem we have is that my partner suffers some pressure points on her hips.

This is the 4th mattress we've purchased in 5 years!!!
Yes, we have spent thousands and thousands and couldn’t understand what were doing wrong.
We followed the advice we were given by salesmen and women.
At first, the mattress is great.
Then, after only a few months, we notice it going bad.
And by that time, it's too late to return it.
The companies have covered themselves with a worthless warranty when we complain.
We are about 6ft. tall, and 180-190 lbs.

When I read your entire website it screams at me about memory foam being a bad choice.
I had to laugh when I realized that I have been brainwashed!! (It was that or cry).
I was even going to buy an all memory foam bed, next. (Thanks for saving me from that!)

The first thing we did, is turn the mattress over, per your advice to others.
(You advised them to buy a latex topper too).
Even without the latex topper, it was the first good night's sleep we have had in years!

I now HATE memory foam.
After reading your articles, I now know that it was the memory foam causing our pain.
The bed companies need to realise that they are making lots of people unhappy.
We are going to move away from buying any of the name brands.
Anyway, my questions are:
1. If we bought a latex topper and added it to our current, turned over, Sealy mattress, would it make it too soft?
We like a firm mattress and would the Sealy mattresses spring last long and not sag?
2. What is the best firm sprung mattress to now buy without memory foam?
3. Is there a good firm mattress with built in latex, that will not sag and hold our body weight?

I feel so passionate about the subject of mattresses, and am disgusted with the manufacturers.
We would like is a firm mattress that doesn’t dip and will give my partner relief from her sensitive hips.
Adding a memory foam topper to our current Sealy mattress, after only one night, just made our backs worse!

Thank you, so much, for taking the time to read all of this.

Hi Tracy,
There is such a mattress, as you describe. (Answering questions 2 & 3.
In fact, my wife and I sleep on one at home. (She, too, has a sensitive hip).
The individually pocketed coils are twice tempered for strength and durability.
The independent movement of the coils maintain the natural alignment of the spine.
The Upholstery is Natural Talalay Latex...and there is NO Memory Foam in these mattresses.
Of the 4 models in the line, the Ultra Plush is the most comfortable...not too soft...the one we have at home.
Here is a link to the Natura of Canada Greenspring line of mattresses:

You can use the foundation you have. You only need the mattress without the foundation.

For question #1, yes...a latex topper will make your current, flipped over, mattress more comfortable.
Latex is far more resilient than memory foam and it will not feel too soft.
A suggest the Pure Talalay Bliss 3" Plush Natural Talalay Latex Topper.

VERY IMPORTANT:
Keeping your mattress clean and dry will increase longevity.
Use our Organic Cotton Waterproof Mattress Protector.

Thanks, Pete
