Latex Mattress for a Child and a Fix for Sleep to Live Mattress.

Hi Pete,
Thank you so much for your expertise.
Questions
1a:  We just purchased a queen blue-dot nook platform bed, as a long term bed for our now 2 1/2 year old child.
As we continue to work on him sleeping better on his own, I think that it is likely that I will also be laying with him for part of the night.
We purchased the queen so that he could use this long term and also so that we have an additional guest bedroom option.
The most important thing for me, however, is that it is a great mattress for him from toddler to kid and on.
Natural materials are also very important for me (chemical free/no harmful substances).
We can, luckily, afford to purchase an all latex mattress if that is what you recommend.

1b. Given the bed, do we need buy something to go in between the "pre-cambered ply slat system" and the mattress?
1c. Do you recommend any toppers or protectors since he is a toddler?

2: My husband and I purchased a sleep to live 700 series for $2600 some years ago. (wish I found your site earlier!!).
Unfortunately, we hate this mattress and I have now had back pain most mornings waking up.
There is a ton of sag, (despite me only weighing 115 lbs), and I have not heard good stories about the ability to get the item replaced.
Do you have any recommendations on a latex topper that might give us some more life to this mattress.
We we redo our bedroom, we will likely buy a new mattress for ourselves.
But, I'd like to get more life out of this in a guest bedroom if possible).
Thank you again for your time and input.
I really appreciate it.
Thanks, Megan

Hi Megan,
1a) Your Child's Mattress
A Natural Talalay Latex Mattress is the best you can do for a growing child.
There's no chemical off gassing and a very supportive and comfortable night's sleep that will remain so for decades.
Latex is a bit more expensive, initially, but less expensive long term.
It will not need replacing for an extremely long time...if ever.
The Natura of Canada Bourdolay Plush is the Latex Mattress I'm recommending.

White Glove Delivery is free and there's no sales tax.
1b) The support from your platform bed in enough. you need the mattress only.
1c) Yes, absolutely...a waterproof mattress protector is a must for every mattress you buy.
Even for adults, it prevents perspiration from getting into the mattress will keep it clean, fresh, dry.
For a growing child, who will become a teenager...the advantage of protecting the mattress is more obvious.
The mattress protector we recommend has been home tested by my wife and I.
Unlike most, it's organic, sleeps cool, and doesn't shrink when washed in hot water.
Here is the link for that.

2) Your King Mattress
First, check the boxspring that is under your mattress. Slip your hand between the mattress and boxspring and push down.
If you can compress it easily, which is common for that brand, then change the boxspring.
You can do this most economically at Costco. Their Sealy Boxsprings are much stronger and firmer...and at a price you can't beat anywhere.
If you need one sent to you, then I recommend this "Easy-Fit-Foundation", which assembles easily and with no tools.
Changing the foundation may be enough to firm up your mattress.
If you then need to get a latex topper for your mattress, you'll have better results by first flipping that mattress over, and then adding the latex topper.
The underside of the mattress is much firmer...which will provide your back with better support, but may be too firm to sleep on comfortably.
A 2" or 3" Pure Bliss Plush Natural Talalay Latex Topper will be all you need to give you comfort that doesn't sag.
