A Plush Stearns and Foster Mattress is Causing Back Pain.

Hi Pete,
I have a fairly new mattress ( 2 years old ). 
It is a Stearns and Foster plush. We had traded in 2 times to end up with  that.
First was a pillow top plush...way too soft. The second was a firm...way too hard...all Sterns and Foster. 
Probably should have stayed with the firm. I have back problems (disc related) and arthritis in my hip. I am a side sleeper.
This current is too soft, and it's causing me back pain. If I am not able to replace mattress would one of your toppers help? If so, which one ? 
If I do replace mattress what would you recommend?

Hi Margaret,
You're right. You should have stayed with the firm for your disc problems and then softened the surface with a soft latex topper for your arthritis. 
That would have been best for optimum results in addressing both issues.
You can go with a firm latex topper to make the surface firmer, which will help your back, but do nothing for your arthritis. 
The underside is much firmer and will provide much better support for your back.

Soften the surface of a too firm mattress. Insulate yourself from the memory foam in your mattress to Sleep Cool. Extend the comfort life of your mattress.

First, flip the mattress over and give it a good try. If your back feels better, then all you need is the latex topper for your arthritis.
This should be all you need to do.

ALSO IMPORTANT:
