Dad Recommended I Contact You for a New Mattress.

Hi Pete,
My wife and I are desperately in need of a new mattress and my dad recommended I contact you.
To be honest, we don’t really have the time or the inclination to go around to mattress stores trying different things, and from what I understand, the average mattress store is not a reliable place to purchase a mattress anyway.
We have a queen-sized bed, and are both relatively light people (I’m 5’10”, 145 lbs.; my wife is 5’7” 120 lbs.) who typically are side sleepers and occasional back sleepers.
We prefer a softer feel.

For the sake of convenience we have considered the “mattress in a box” option, but aren’t confident we will like the memory foam feel.
We also aren’t excited about the added expense of getting a platform for our bed (currently a frame and boxspring set-up with a VERY old traditional inner-spring mattress).
Also, at one point, we had used a memory foam topper of some kind that was very soft and it gave my wife incredible body pain so that scares us as well.

The mattress we both really enjoy sleeping on is at the Hampton Inn and we considered just buying from them directly.
It is some kind of Serta Pillowtop mattress (some online information indicates it is in the Cloud 9 family).
I understand that this type of purchase could be a big mistake because the price would be greatly inflated, and because the mattress quality itself may be lacking so it wouldn’t hold up over time.

We don’t have a ton of money, but we are willing to invest in a mattress that will provide the comfort we are looking for and will hold up over time.  Our maximum would be around $1500.  Obviously other considerations are whether we will need a new box spring or a platform.

Thank you for your time and I appreciate any recommendations you can make.

Hi Samuel,
A mattress is a pressure sensitive item.
The need for a strong mattress is in direct proportion to the weight being placed upon it.
Memory foam is the only material that is also temperature sensitive.
It softens as it warms from your body heat.
It isn’t very resilient to start will, so it doesn’t take long or need much weight to sink through it. It is, in fact, the absolute worst upholstery material ever invented.
It’s purpose is to sell more mattresses more frequently to the same people.
Read these blog posts to learn more about it.

Conversely, all natural latex is and has been the best upholstery material for the last 100 years....most comfortable and most resilient...longest lasting.

We carry a reasonably priced mattress, using an individually pocketed coil unit and upholstered with all natural latex. It ships via FedEx, which helps keep the cost down.
Both mattresses on this next link are made the same. For the small difference in price, the Adara model is finished with all natural materials. Otherwise, the Adrian will perform and wear just as well.

The mattress has to go on something. An old boxspring is not ideal.
If you noticed, those mattresses are photographed on a basic black platform bed.
It, too, is very reasonably priced....shown here:

At your sizes, this will be your Best Buy.
FedEx Delivery is Free and there’s No Sales Tax.

ALSO IMPORTANT:
I suggest using a waterproof mattress protector with every mattress.
Keeping your mattress clean and dry will greatly extend the life and loft of the upholstery materials inside. Ours sleep cool and make NO Noise.

Thanks, Pete
