Best advice for a new mattress.

Hi Pete,
I am in the market for a new mattress, and would like your best advice.

We do not love memory foams ( I had a $3000 Tempurpedic) but prefer the Luxury/Firm innersprings like the Stearns and Foster Estate.
I read your tip on buying a firm mattress and a Talalay Topper instead of a pillowtop, as it is more durable and avoids sagging.
Can you advise on what exact mattress and topper to buy that would achieve that?
Thanks, Mark

Hi Mark,
S&F is now owned by Tempurpedic.
Everything they make today is loaded with memory foam.
S&F had been considered ‘The Cadillac of the Industry’ for decades.
Now, it’s just expensive junk, designed to need replacing within a couple/few years.

The latex topper recommendation was something we relied on for the sake of taking a lower quality mattress and having it last longer than the manufacturer intended.
But, the name brand mattresses have gotten worse.
We still do it with Simmons Beautyrest mattresses under certain circumstances because the memory foam Simmons uses doesn’t off gas chemical fumes.
All of the other name brands, including S&F, do off gas the toxic chemicals from which memory foam is made...a health hazard, as well as a lousy product.

We also recommend buying a latex topper to add comfort and extend the life of older mattresses...in lieu of buying a new mattress.

We have done a great deal of shopping for higher quality alternatives to what the name brands are offering.
You would do much better to go with one of these.
The best we’ve found is a better made mattress than I’ve seen in quite some time.
In fact, we have one for our master bedroom.
It’s made by Natura of Canada. Their Greenspring line uses a strong coil...a high coil count...and is upholstered with natural Talalay Latex...containing NO Memory Foam.
There are 5 models in the line. The Plush EuroTop is the most comfortable of them...for which you would not have to purchase a separate latex topper.
That’s what I recommend to you.

I suggest using a waterproof mattress protector with every mattress.
Keeping your mattress clean and dry will greatly extend the life and loft of the upholstery materials inside. Ours sleep cool and make NO Noise.
