Hi Walter,
Pete
I will try and be brief Macy's has said our Beautyrest Vanderbuilt Arbor Terrace firm pillow top is defective. I am very well informed on the mattress industry. But like everyone else the more I read the more confusing it gets, even knowledgeable sales people who have been selling for years are not sure what is inside a mattress!
Back to the Arbor Terrace, I am due a no out of pocket cost replacement, according to Beautyrest. Macy's says there is no equal, I asked Beautyrest unofficially they said the level 2 or Macy's Waterscape is the closest. I conveyed this back to Macy's it has been thrown back from customer care to their replacement dept.
When we made the purchase it was a very good price, We Like the mattress comfort, and just want the most similar to it. The service tech has us for spring failure, depression of 2.5 1nd 2 inches.
The main problem is the mattress prices have gone up box spring prices down since our purchases. So if we stay with beautyrest we only get 900 back and have to pay the difference of about 400 for a silver line pillow top.
We have had Serta's they failed faster. We tried a Sealy I was good with it my wife liked the Waterscape better. Main goal is no out of pocket expense.
Thanks Walter
Hi Walter,
Read the warranty. You can find it on line if you no longer has the warranty card that came with your mattress.
Defective mattresses are replaced with one of equal or higher value...at No Charge.
The only thing you need to pay, is a delivery charge.
Stores have gotten into the habit of turning an exchange into a new sale.
Stores have gotten into the habit of turning an exchange into a new sale.
Since most folks don’t bother to read the warranty, they go along with the scam.
Several years ago, Consumer Reports stated that the mattress industry was far too complex for them to understand...and made no recommendations.
Six months later, after having received some flack for that bit of honesty, they interviewed 100 people in Denver and based their recommendations on those interviews.
Since then, they obtained the machines that the R&D divisions of the manufacturers used to use to test mattresses for durability...simulating 15 years of use.
Today, the intricacies of the mattress industry continue to elude CR.
Those old machines tested only the pressure sensitivity of mattresses.
Most of today’s mattresses are both pressure and temperature sensitive...thanks to the abundant use of memory foam.
Older mattresses contained no memory foam.
Memory foam is the worst upholstery material ever invented...specifically designed to cause mattresses to need frequent replacing.
Normally, memory foam returns to its original shape when you get out of bed...or close enough to it, that it won’t measure the 1.5” sustained impression needed to prevail in a warranty claim.
Memory foam softens as it warms from your body heat.
It isn’t very resilient to begin with, so it doesn’t take long...a matter of months...before you start to become uncomfortable.
THIS is what Consumer Reports still doesn’t understand.
They aren’t aware of the temperature sensitivity of the mattresses they test.
Therefore, their conclusions are all wrong.
Serta, for instance, rates high with them. You already know better from experience.
And, just to add insult to injury, memory foam is made of 61 different chemicals...some, of which, are toxic...like formaldehyde and benzene...just to name a couple of the more dangerous ones. Off gassing these toxic chemicals, memory foam is a health hazard to every living being in your home. It attacks your respiratory system.
The memory foam Simmons uses does not off gas. It still doesn’t hold up worth a damn, but at least, it won’t make you sick.
There is only one long term solution, which requires insulating yourself from the memory foam in the mattress...so that it doesn’t react to your body heat.
Have Macy’s send you a Luxury Firm Beautyrest, without a pillowtop.
In lieu of the pillowtop, add an EverEden all natural 2” Soft Talalay Latex Topper.
Latex is and has been the best upholstery material for the last 100 years.
It will absorb your body weight, insulate you from the memory foam...sleep cool and cause the mattress to last far longer than the manufacturer intended.
Those latex toppers, shown here:
Today’s salespeople are trained on how to close the sale.
They know little about their products.
Thanks, Pete
