A wife wants what a wife wants. And, normally, a husband will and should get her what she wants.
The time to step in, is when what she wants is harmful.
She wouldn't know this, but the mattress industry has gone bad...especially with the name brands that we know and have trusted for so long.
The mattress she wants will fail quickly.
I see it as my job to prevent people from making bad decisions...or, at least, give you a head's up about it. The choice is, ultimately, yours.
All of today's name brand mattress companies have gone from making a quality mattress, to making mattresses that need to be replaced frequently.
The industry is experiencing a boon...selling more mattresses, more frequently, to the same people.
For the consumer, is't been a nightmare.
If you were to look up reviews for any of the name brands, you'll find very few happy customers.
The material that has allowed these manufacturers to turn from quality to quantity, is memory foam.
When you shop at stores, they talk about that garbage as though it were the best thing since sliced bread.
I'm telling you that it is the worst upholstery material ever invented.
Memory foam is comprised of 61 different chemicals...some, of which, are toxic.
A mattress upholstered with memory foam will have a bad smell when delivered. They tell you to air it out and it will be fine.
The bad smell is the off gassing of the toxic chemicals...and, it is a health hazard to every living being in your home.
Memory foam is the only upholstery material that is temperature sensitive.
As it warms from the body heat you give off, the memory foam softens, allowing you to sink into it.
It, also, reflects your body heat back to you...sleeping hot.
They often use gel to mitigate the heat problem...another product that doesn't work well for long.
The gel reaches a saturation point within a few hours...and the bed heats up in the middle of the night.
Memory foam isn't very resilient to begin with. This business of warming and softening every night, allows you to sink further and further into the mattress.
Within a matter of months, you begin to feel the mattress wearing under you. Within a year or two, (depending on body weight), the mattress is shot and needs to be replaced.
The mattress comes with a warranty, so you may be thinking that you can get it exchanged under the terms of the warranty...
...which brings me to the really diabolical part of memory foam.
The reason why they call it memory foam, is because it remembers it's original shape when you get off of it.
Despite sinking in so far as to cause back pain...along with a myriad of other physical ailments...the foam returns to its original form when you get off of the mattress.
You can complain all you like, but the foam will not take a sustained body impression deep enough to prevail in a warranty claim.
This leaves you with no other option than to buy a new mattress.
And, if you buy the mattress from the hotel, directly, you'll pay double what you'd pay at retail. It's like getting screwed twice as badly.
Hotels focus on making their guest comfortable. They, like any other consumer, sacrifice durability for that comfort...not knowing that there's a better way to go about this.
And, hotel rooms are filled on a rotating basis....and not, usually, every night.
Even with this part time use, those mattresses are replaced every few years. In a master bedroom...you'd be lucky to get 2 years out of that mattress.
What I'm recommending to you, will be soft enough to satisfy your wife...but hold up a lot better and last a lot longer.
