Stearns and Foster Harbor View Villa Latex Mattress.

Hello Peter,
Some years ago,I purchased a Stearns and Foster Harbor View Villa  mattress. It was sold to me as a 100% natural latex mattress with a dunlop core  and talalay pillow top.
Now that the mattress is developing body impressions, I noticed that the tag said it is 84% latex, 14% polyurethane, and 2% various fabrics.
I've called S&F twice, and sent one email to them, but I have not been  able to speak with someone who has technical knowledge, nor has my email  been returned.
Assuming the label is correct, where is the polyurethane in the mattress, and why is it there instead of latex?
What are the  advantages or disadvantages of polyurethane in this particular  application?
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Your replies are extremely helpful.
Thanks again, Eric

Hi Eric,
This is what happens when you shop at stores.
Your mistake, as a consumer, was to assume the salesperson knows his business and you assume that you will get what he/she tells you you're getting.
In many stores, especially in the large chain stores, nothing could be further from the truth.
Today's salespeople are hired for their affability, taught very little, and left to wing it as they go....just making things up when they don't know the answer.
After all, they need to 'sound' like they know what they're talking about.
The mattress you bought has no Dunlop or Talalay latex. The latex that is inside that model is 100% synthetic, using the Sapsa process, which was developed in England.
There is a layer of poly foam just above the synthetic latex core, another layer under the pillowtop, and two layers in the pillowtop.
The advantage of the poly foam is that it's cheap....not an advantage to you, just to the manufacturer.
The poly foam will also promote premature wear...another advantage for the manufacturer.
The factory provides the retailers accurate information about what is inside their mattresses.
That information doesn't always make it's way to the sales people....nor, to the consumer.
Your salesman mis-represented his product....probably not on purpose...likely out of ignorance...and I'm hard press to decide which is worse.
Your beef is not with the manufacturer, it's with your retailer.
I'm afraid that there is nothing you can do, at this point. That mattress has been discontinued.
And, with this industry's high turn over rate, you aren't likely to find that same salesman.

Here are a list of the specifications for that mattress. You can see the layers of Poly Foam listed.
'Smart Latex' is the factory's euphemism for synthetic latex.
