I have a similar neck issue for pretty much the same reason....looking down a lot. (crunching numbers). I developed arthritis in my neck.
Over the years, I have tried many types of pillows. A couple/three years ago, we were given a newly designed latex pillow to try at home. 
It works so well, that it is the one we recommend for anyone for relief of chronic neck pain. It's made of finely chopped latex. 
The really great thing about this pillow, is that it can be molded to fit around you any way you want.
You can make it fuller or thinner...firmer or softer...just by manipulating it, the way you would a down pillow. 
But unlike a down pillow, the natural latex doesn't wear out. I've been using that same pillow all this time, and it still works.
