Hi Pete,
I recently stayed at a Ritz Hotel and had the best sleep I've had in over a year - no back pain at all which I usually have when I wake up.
I'd like to purchase the mattress, but I know if I buy from Ritz I'll probably be paying double what it's worth.
Do you know if the Ritz mattress is made under another name that might be more reasonably priced?
Thanks so much, Gabrielle
Hi Gabrielle,
You're right about that.
Mattresses sold at hotels are available at retail for about half the price.
Here's a couple of the problems you face.
The mattress you slept on, isn't likely to be the mattress you'd get if you were to buy from the hotel directly....unless it's a brand new hotel.
As the years go by, mattresses are replaced as necessary. Every couple of years, the mattress manufacturers change the specifications of their mattresses.
The mattress you slept on, may be new or it may be several years old.
(There's a white label sewn into the mattress at the head, which provides lots of information. Among that info is the date of manufacture).
To complicate matters further, S&F was purchased by Tempurpedic. That line changed dramatically in 2014.
S&F had been considered the "Cadillac of the Industry" for decades.
Today, with all of the memory foam used in that line, they are nothing more than expensive junk.
We used to be a Sealy/S&F dealer, exclusively...and were happy to be so, since almost everything they made was of such good quality.
That is no longer the case.
If what you slept on is an older model, it's no longer available, and the new models aren't worth buying, as they don't hold up well.
