Interested in Purchasing an all Latex Mattress.

Hi Pete,
My wife and I moved into a new house and are upgrading from a queen to a king. I've been reading through your site and blog posts which have gotten me interested in all latex.
How do you choose between recommending a new mattress with latex topper or a latex mattress?
Is it purely a price decision?
Because while the Talalay ones are more expensive, the Wolf models I've seen you recommend are less than double what just the 2" topper you recommend costs.
Are latex mattresses two-sided? Do they require boxsprings? Do they work with adjustable beds?
You say that you currently sleep on both the Natura mattress and a latex topper. But in posts where you recommend a latex mattress, you say a latex topper isn't needed. What am I missing?
My wife and I are average height and weight (5'5"/130 and 5'10"/165, respectively). We sleep on our sides and back, and we prefer firm over soft.
What would be your recommendation(s)?
Looking forward to your answers!
Thanks in advance for the help!
Kyle

Hi Kyle,
All, excellent questions.
For many, price is an issue. The all latex mattresses tend to be more expensive, as latex is expensive to make.
Most of my recommendations are based on the end result of relieving pain from some sort of physical ailment.
Many of my customers are older, or on their way to being so...are heavier...and are experiencing the aches and pains of both.
Many have disc related back problems, in conjunction to the fore mentioned complications.

Latex, while infinitely better than memory foam, has something in common with memory foam. They are, both, foam.
And while latex is greatly more resilient than memory foam, neither provide the push back support necessary to properly support a spine suffering from worn discs...complicated by heavier weight and age.
THIS is why you see frequent recommendations for a coiled mattress topped with latex...the coil unit for support and the latex for surface comfort.
Regardless of who you are or what your physical condition, the combination of some degree of firm support along with some degree of surface softness, is the key to a good night's sleep.
The quality of the components that are providing that support and comfort, will determine the longevity.
We carry a wide variety of quality products, that I use as an arsenal to address each individual's specific need(s).

People who are young and fit can sleep on darn near anything.
That said, you still don't want to throw your money away on inferior products, like toxic poor wearing hot sleeping memory foam...even if you do find it comfortable.
And why would you, when you can buy an all latex mattress, which is far superior...much longer lasting...with comfort that stay's like new for many many years...and, sleeps cool.
I have a grandson who is growing up on an all natural all latex mattress.
Whatever physical damage that befalls his body as he grows, (i.e. sports, accidents, etc.), I know that the mattress he has will not be among the list of possible causes.

Very few mattresses are available two-sided. We do carry some...none, of which, are upholstered with latex or memory foam.

Old Fashioned made Two Sided Mattress that you can flip. Strong coil unit and NO Memory Foam. Durable for Plus Sized People. Works with Adjustable Bed Bases.

All of the mattresses we carry, and almost every mattress made, is compatible for use on an adjustable bed base.
That said, when you raise the head of your adjustable bed to sit up, your body weight shifts. Instead of being evenly distributed along the length of the mattress, almost all of your body weight is now supported by the small section of mattress just under your butt. That small section of mattress will be called upon to do much more work than it was designed to do.
It's at that point in the mattress, where you will see the first signs of wear...the point in the mattress that will wear much more dramatically than the rest of the mattress.
So, you will want a mattress strong enough to hold up well. And nothing wears as well as an all natural, all latex mattress.
The very best in value and quality all natural all latex mattresses, is the EverEden brand...shown here:

Latex Toppers are the tools used for a number of reasons.
1) To soften a too firm mattress
2) To get more comfort and years out of an older, high quality mattress.
3) To over come the memory foam that is in the mattress.

In the case of my wife and I, the mattress we opted for wasn't soft enough for my wife's sensitive hip.
Had we chosen the softer model in the line, adding a latex topper would not have been necessary.
