A Soft Talalay Latex Topper for a Simmons Beautyrest Recharge Luxury Firm Mattress.

Hi Pete,
I was looking for info concerning a recent mattress purchase when I came across your website.  Here's my situation.
In Nov. 2016 my wife and I purchased a King Size Simmons Beautyrest Recharge Plush to replace a King Size Simmons Beautyrest World Class Augusta Pillowtop we slept on for 13 years.
The new bed slept well, however, within a few weeks it developed visible body impressions.
We thought it might be the cushy mattress pad we had used for about a year so we removed the mattress pad and saw that although the pad did have impressions the mattress did too.
The mattress has memory foam and is supposedly air cooled (ventilated) as well, and we were told this mattress would not develop impressions like our old mattress did.
The development of body impressions over time was one of our big concerns when we were shopping.
When the salesman told us this mattress would not do that we bought into it. He lied.

Weeks after making the purchase I decided to look on line and I saw we weren't the only ones who had this issue with this mattress.
I  also saw where in one of the complaints the individual said the manufacturer stated the impression had to be at least 1.5 in. before they would do anything.
Ours wasn't close to that depth yet so we figured complaining would be useless so we did nothing.  After several more weeks we decided to go forward with our complaint anyway.
The salesman seemed extremely surprised about the impressions and allowed us to select a different mattress for replacement.
This time we decided to select something firmer and chose the Beautyrest Recharge in Luxury Firm, which is also a memory foam mattress.
The new mattress was delivered on Aug. 10 and we slept on it for the first time two nights later.
We did not sleep on it right away because there was distinct out-gassing from the mattress which I had also read about on line.
We decided to let it air out for a couple of days and it seemed to work.  We did not have the out-gassing issue with the initial purchase back in Nov.
Still being a little paranoid about the replacement mattress decision, I decided to seek more info on this particular mattress and that's when I came across your website.
After reading your info I must admit I am very paranoid about the choice we made and whether we made a good decision.
It seems as though you do not recommend memory foam mattresses at all.  Am I correct about that?
I don't know that there's anything we can do at this time in light of the fact that the new mattress has not shown any problems, thus far.
But, after reading your info I am curious as to whether or not we may be able to salvage what may prove to be a disappointing purchase with one of the latex toppers.
I would greatly appreciate any and all advice (good and/or bad) or suggestions you may have regarding our recent decision to switch to this Simmons Beautyrest mattress.
Thank you very much, Nate

Hi Nate,
The problems you've faced begin with your perception and expectations, based on what you've been used to.
Technically, the salesman didn't lie. The new mattress will not take body impressions the way your old mattress did.
Your old mattress took years to develop them and your new mattress took weeks....not at all the same.

Plush Beautyrests use a much thinner gauge coil than the firmer models. This creates a greater depth of softness and a mattress that begins to lose its shape quickly.
The memory foam used by Simmons is better than the memory foam that is typically used...more resilient and less temperature sensitive. There was no memory foam in your old mattress.
Still, your new mattress will wear a whole lot faster than your old one did.
The best way to avoid this premature wear is to add a layer of latex to the surface.
Since you are drawn to plush and pillowtop mattresses for their initial comfort, a 2" layer of soft Talalay latex will satisfy your desire for comfort.
Being the most resilient material available, the latex topper will absorb much of your body weight.
The mattress will last longer...typically, twice as long as it would without the latex topper.
The luxury firm mattress under the latex topper will provide the firm support your body needs.
The latex topper will provide the long term comfort you want and add longevity to the mattress.
As a result, the latex toppers more than pay for themselves in the long run.
Choose from either, the EverEden or Pure Bliss brands. Both work equally well.
