Kingsdown Mattress Problems.

Alethea writes:

Hello Peter,
My husband and I purchased a Kingsdown mattress, last year. We had one from them years ago, that we loved. Of course it was $3000 and lasted about 5 years.
When we went to find another one. Of course everything had changed. So the salesperson showed us a lower end innerspring that we loved when we laid on it. So we ordered it.
We get it home and are experiencing the WORST sleep ever. No cushion etc. So I take off the sweaty waterproof mattress pad and sheets and it's like they forgot to put all the cushion in.
I could grab the top and pull it up like 5 inches. So we head back to retailer. They said they could send out another obviously it was defective.
should have went with that, but we choose to "upgrade ". Felt great at the store. So it's delivered (also, we paid a lot more for it).
HORRIBLE!!!! It took a year for it to somewhat break in. That lasted about two weeks. Hate the sinking in feeling and it had absolutely NO support.
Well, during that year we removed the waterproof cover they sold us, due to the fact we had pools of sweat during the night.
Well, I got a mascara stain on the mattress. So our warranty is void. But we didn't know that until they sent out the 3rd party mattress inspector
The mattress that should slowly return its shape had over 1.5" sags with a hard bump in between.
Also one edge was bowing in while he other was bowing out. So they turn in the paper and say it will take 5 to 10 days to hear back from them.
So day 10 with 5 minutes left of work hours I call and the lady is like "yeah I saw your paper and due to stain kingsdown will not warranty it".
So now it's up to the manager who is on vacation until the next week.
I told her her whole scenario. She said that we will have to wait for the manager. So now they might give us a credit.
When we went down to make claim the "new" salesperson, ( the other one is no longer there),  said it sounds like we would want a latex mattress.
We laid on one and loved how it felt, but we no longer however trust our judgement. They showed us another Kingsdown, which is like another $1500 more, but there is NO way!
We need help!!!! They carry the big S brands. I have done so much research and am more confused then ever. Do you have a recommendation?
I am a side sleeper 5'4" 170. Husband is back sleeper and 5'10" 190.
Thank you, Alethea

Hi Alethea,
Kingsdown has a terrible reputation.
Not only do they make a lousy mattress, it is a limited distribution type company...allowing their retailers to charge high prices...2 to 3 times what they are worth.
I'm having a difficult time understanding how you can spend $3000 for a mattress that lasted you only 5 years.
And then to go out to buy another just like it. There is no shortage of stores selling junk mattresses and no shortage of consumers willing to believe every lie the salespeople tell.
It's after you've been burned, like that, that I have such a difficult time understanding why you would, so easily, repeat that mistake.
If you have $3000 to spend on a mattress, there's no reason why you shouldn't buy the best...instead of one of the worst.
If the store manager is willing to exchange your mattress...when he gets back from vacation...then exchange it for the latex mattress.
Latex is, by far, better than memory foam. Latex is comfy but doesn't allow you to sink through, as memory foam does.
If you don't get authorization to exchange, then start over...at a different store. All the S brands have gone bad over the years...substituting high profits for the quality then no longer have.
