Replacing a King with 2 Twin XL Mattresses for RLS Restless Leg Syndrome.

Trish writes:

Hi Pete,
My husband has horrible RLS, restless leg syndrome. It often drives me to another bed from all the movement.
We currently have a verlo supreme from 2007 on a traditional wood frame with xl twin box springs.
We can't afford a sleep number split king for $8,000 which is highly recommended for restless leg syndrome and sleep disturbances.
Would using my current bed work if I just replace the king mattress with 2xl twin mattresses and add a bridge product to keep them together?
I would appreciate any advice you may have!
Thanks, Trish

Hi Trish,
2 twin xl mattresses will provide the break needed to greatly reduce the motion transfer that's common with RLS.
Cinching the two mattresses tightly together will then increase the motion transfer. So, you'll want to keep them apart just a little.
A mattress using an individually pocketed coil unit will also reduce motion transfer.

Before going to any great expense in mattresses, I'd suggest a trick I've learned.
It seems that RLS is enhanced when the muscles in the legs are cooler.
I've found that a pair of leg warmers...the kind dancers use...will reduce the intensity of RLS by keeping the muscles in the legs warm.

Since all this interest in new mattresses is based on you being disturbed by his RLS...as opposed to actually needing a new mattress...$10.00, or so, for a pair of leg warmers is the logical 1st step.
