Sealy Posturepedic Titanium Coil Mattresses.

Hi Pete,
I just wanted to know what you think of titanium coils as compared to steel.
I also wanted your opinion on the Sealy Posturepedic plush queen mattress.
It's supposed to have a combination of gel memory foam, regular foam and 704 titanium coils. It's firm.
Thanks Pete. I appreciate the input.

Hi Gordon,
It sounds really good when you say it that way. I wasn't all that excited to see the new Posturepedic line when they introduced the Titanium Coils, back in June of 2011.
Titanium isn't any stronger than steel under normal circumstances. Titanium is only stronger when exposed to high heat.
So, if you plan of re-entering the Earth's atmosphere, while riding atop your mattress, it might have some value.

We sat around the conference table at the Sealy factory, while the sales manager gave his schpeel.
The paper work in front of me showed prices that were unchanged from the older line and it made me wonder how this could be, give the price of titanium.
So, I asked, "Are these coils all titanium?". The response was, "No. They are steel coils, alloyed with titanium."
"How much titanium", I asked. After some hemming and hawing, I was given some nonsense about it being a secret recipe.
After pushing a issue a bit, "10% to 20%, was the response. Knowing what a typical, lying mattress salesman this particular individual is, my guess is that it's much closer to 10% than 20%.

You were quoted 704 coils in a queen. Prior to the addition of the titanium, the coil count for a Posturepedic was 782 in queen. So, what they gave with one hand, they more than took back with the other.
They also added more memory foam. Memory foam is thee worst upholstery material ever invented for use in a mattress.
Memory foam is comprised of 61 chemical, some of which are toxic and those toxic chemicals off-gas. The smell of memory foam is a health hazard, attacking the respiratory system.
Memory foam is notorious for sleeping hot. Of late, they've added gel to mitigate the heat. However, the gel only works for a few hours...at which time, it heats up again.
My opinion of that mattress is that it's a total waste of money.

Prior to the 2011 line change, I had recommended Sealy quite often as a best buy.
In my opinion, Sealy made a mess of their line. Prior to June 2011, they were the number one brand.
Their quality dropped and so did their ranking...from 1st, to 2nd, to 3rd. In the 40+ years that I've been in this business, they went from 2nd to first back in the 1980s and stayed there until 2011.
In 2013, they were purchased by the Tempurpedic Company. But don't look for them to improve. Instead, the infusion of money from Tempurpedic became greater.
Instead of making a better mattress, they spend money to convince you how good this crappy one is.
It's what they've always done, to sell their memory foam mattress.
Their unrelenting mass-media marketing is called brain-washing.

I suggest that you do not buy into the lies they're selling.
