Hi Pete,
I am allergic to latex, would this be a problem with the latex in the mattress discussed in some of the answers here.
Thank you, Vickie
Hi Vickie,
A latex allergy is topical, meaning that it has to come in contact with the skin.
The allergen in latex is the naturally present protein.
With latex gloves and bandages, the protein has not been removed and those products come in direct contact with your skin.
Latex foam, be it Dunlop of Talalay, goes through a process, in which it is whipped into a foam and poured into a mold.
As part of these processes, the latex goes through a 5 stage washing where almost all of the protein is removed...enough to make it hypo-allergenic.
As a mattress or a topper, they are then covered...so the latex does not come in contact with your skin.
These products are then further covered with the linens you use.
I have never had anyone react negatively to a latex mattress or latex topper.
Furthermore, we also offer latex mattresses and toppers that are made of Vytex Dunlop, which is reasonably new.
What's new about it is the extra step taken to remove the little protein remaining from the original Dunlop process...rendering it, virtually, allergen free.
