We are not above average in our height or weight- my husband is shy of 6 feet and I am only just barely above 5 :); both within healthy weight limits.
We are middle aged (late 40s) and active, and predominantly sleep on our backs and sides, although occasionally have a night or two on the stomach.
If we wanted a King size bed-what coil count should we look for?
Lastly, aesthetically, I would love to move away from a "box spring" to a platform bed, but didn't know if I would be able to use a standard mattress.
I greatly appreciate your assistance and expertise.

The Natura Greenspring line is what we have at home...the best we've tested thus far.
The zoning has value, but 7 compared to 5 is just marketing and not something of value.
The high quality components of the Natura Greenspring models provides long lasting support and comfort.
I must caution you about which one to choose. Because the materials are of higher density than most other mattresses, the comfort descriptions are a bit skewed.
For instance, we bought the ultra plush. While comfortable enough to sleep well, it didn't have that plushy soft surface feel that we like.
We ended up getting an EverEden 2" Soft Talalay Latex topper to put on it.
I had a customer buy the "plush" model and complain that it was too firm for her.
The "Firm" model is downright hard.
However, the Firm model and a latex topper might just give you the feel you want...and yes, a latex topper will extend the life of any mattress.
Back and stomach sleeper do better on firm, while side sleepers need some cush.
These, and all other mattresses, Perform just as well on a platform bed.
Just make sure that the platform bed has the right center supports.
