Sealy SpringFree River Crest latex mattress going bad.

Marie writes:

Hi Pete,
I need your help!
Our current mattress is a Sealy SpringFree River Crest latex mattress that we bought in September of 2009 so it's a little over 7 years old.
I am 300 pounds and 5'7" and my husband is 5'9" and 215 pounds.
We were religious about rotating it the first four years, but after my pregnancy (my highest weight during my pregnancy was 309 pounds)
I got a hernia and he wouldn't let me help him so we were not as good rotating it.
The mattress was amazing (except for marital activities-it stinks) and we loved it, but the last 5 months, we have had such a hard time sleeping in it.
We toss and turn with numb arms, pain in hips, pain in knees, I have even developed a meralgya (pinched nerve that makes my thigh burn and I'm convinced it's because of my position during sleep.
The mattress has terribly deep dents all over making it impossible to sleep properly. It's so bad we are thinking about getting a topper or replacing it altogether.
I understand that due to our weight the mattress may have had a shorter life span, but 7 years??? Is this normal?  It cost almost $2000 back in 2009.
Should we contact Sealy? Should we buy a topper? Should we throw it out? If so, what do you recommend for our needs?
Thank you so much.

Marie

Hi Marie,
Sealy is now owned by Tempurpedic. As a result of that, they put memory foam in everything...even in their latex line.
So, doing a warranty claim, if successful, will yield one of these memory foam laden mattresses.

One economical solution is to add a latex topper to the flip side of the mattress.
If you turn the mattress over, the underside is much firmer...the Latex core.
Adding a latex topper to that will give you firmer support and a comfortable sleeping surface.
The EverEden all natural 2" soft Vytex Dunlop Latex Topper is the one I recommend for you.

Talalay Latex toppers are normally purchased as “Soft” for the purpose of softening a too firm mattress. However, both, the Vytex Dunlop & Talalay Latex Mattress ...
Since Sealy was purchased by Tempurpedic, we stopped being a Sealy dealer, as memory foam is the worst upholstery material ever invented.
We now offer higher quality alternatives to what the name brands are making.
So, if you're considering a change, the going with all natural latex is the way to go.
The 8" or 9" models from EverEden are all natural and the most economical.
