Replacing 2009 Simmons Beautyrest "W Bed" Plush Mattress.

Hi Pete,
Thanks for your posts online! I have a question where you can hopefully help.
In 2009, my wife and I purchased, and have very much enjoyed, the "W Hotels Bed", which is a Simmons plush top.
It served us very well for seven years. With the Simmons purchase in 2013, I suspect that much has changed in the Simmons line. Perhaps even the W Bed itself has changed.
Unfortunately, the top foam is starting to break down and we are looking for a replacement. Two questions:
1. What current non-hotel mattress would be the best match to the feel of this mattress? Or should we actually stick with a hotel brand mattress if we like this feel?
2. Should we expect a longer lifespan from a mattress? I understand that hotel brand mattresses can have a shorter lifespan than the typical retail mattress.
Have a great day!
Matt

Hi Matt,
Things have, indeed, changed...and not for the better.
Your Beautyrest held up so well because of the lack of memory foam.
Today's Beautyrests are loaded with memory foam. The point of using an inferior product, like memory foam, is to create a situation where the consumer has to replace their mattress more frequently.
The diabolical part of this is that the memory foam will return to it's original shape when you get out of bed...or close enough to it, that you will not prevail in a warranty claim.
It's turned out to be a boon for the industry and a nightmare for the consumer.
This is why, when you shop at mattress stores, that the salespeople talk about that junk like it was the best thing since sliced bread.
It's all about the money...and has nothing to do with what's good or right for you.
This is why we recommend a latex topper to add to your new Beautyrest. It insulates you from the memory foam and causes the mattress to remain like new, for a many more years.
Over the years, we've shopped for higher quality alternatives to the increasingly lower and lower quality mattresses that the name brands are now producing.
It's the pocketed coils of the Simmons Beautyrest, that make it so comfortable...contouring to the shape of your body and maintaining the natural alignment of your spine.
Natura of Canada makes a mattress like the Simmons Beautyrest...their Greenspring line.
The pocketed coil configuration is the same as Simmons. They have more coils than in a World Class Beautyrest. The Greenspring coils are double tempered, while the Beautyrest coils are not tempered.
(Tempering steel...a heating and cooling process...make the steel more resilient)
Also, the Natura Greenspring mattresses are upholstered with Natural Talalay Latex...and contain NO MEMORY FOAM.
There are 5 choices of comfort, with the most comfortable of them being the Liberty Ultra Plush model...the one we sleep on at home.
Here is a link to that line.

This is not a mattress to buy if you're in a hurry to get it. They, generally, take 4 weeks to arrive. But if you have the time, they are well worth the wait.
