Hi Christine,
It's the soft top layers of a mattress that will wear first, and very often, the core of the mattress is still in excellent condition.
Under these circumstances, a cost of a whole new mattress can be avoided, and your current mattress can be made useful for a good number of years more.
If you'd like to explore this possibility, flip your mattress over, which will expose the firm core.
Because it's so firm, it isn't likely to be comfortable.
