Can we clean a urine stain and smell from our mattress?

Aaron writes:

Hi Pete,
how are you?
Well, I've purchased 2 beds from you a king beauty rest black pillow top about 5 years ago and a nxg full mattress about 2 years ago.
Well, the black pillow top has been great, but your right that top foam doesn't hold up. Still good though.
Well, one of my dogs urinated on the bed while we went to church. My wife didn't close the door.
Urine ate thru our protect a bed mattress protector and got into the bed. Bed smells pretty bad.
Any recommendations on what to do? Am I going to need to buy a new mattress?
Thanks, Aaron

Hi Aaron,
I'm sorry to hear about your trouble.
The two factors, with which to contend, are smell and moisture.
Take a hair dryer to the mattress to dry it out thoroughly.
You can neutralize acid and odor with household products like baking soda and febreeze.
However, I might try something from the pet store, specifically made for urine odor.
Let me know how you make out.

BTW, our waterproof mattress protector is superior to what Protect-A-Bed makes.
