Hello Pete,
I am in the market for a King bed for our guest room and I am leaning towards your recommendation of the Santorini with the organic soft Talalay 2" latex topper. My concern is with all of the toxic chemicals that are probably in this mattress. What can you tell me about this?
I went yesterday to a Naturepedic mattress store/factory here in the Cleveland, OH area and could get an organic king set, bottom of their line "Chorus" for $3298. Are you familiar with this line? And then there is your Palmpring line which also looks intriguing! I am obviously conflicted because, while I would prefer to do organic, I am not sure that I want to spend so much on a guest bed.
In 2010 I wanted a healthier, non chemical laden mattress set for my master bedroom and finally found a company in San Francisco called McRoskey that I took a chance on. We are mostly happy with the purchase however, my husband says that he often prefers the luxury beds in some of the hotels he stays at on his travels. I am thinking that adding an organic topper to our bed could also be a good solution until we are ready to replace the whole set. However...the Naturepedic company says that latex CAN trap heat which is just the opposite from what I have been learning on your site. Sleeping hot is just not an option for me! My husband and I are nearly 60 and of medium build. So, buying a latex topper for the guest bed and then trying it out on ours might be a way to know for sure if this would work for us.

Simmons uses a somewhat different memory foam than is commonly used. It's far less temperature sensitive and much more resilient.
You've seen commercials for memory foam, where a hand is pressed into a piece of memory foam, and when the hand is removed, an imprint of the hand remains.
With the memory foam that Simmons uses, the foam rebounds immediately once the hand is removed.
The question of toxicity is a good one....one that is difficult to answer, given all the secrecy concerning the exact chemical make up.
I can tell you this. A complaint about the smell of a Beautyrest is virtually non-existant.
I found all of this rather intriguing. So much so, that we bought a Beautyrest for ourselves...using a latex topper with it, of course.
When it arrived, it had no odor. At the end of our 4 year trial, both, the mattress and latex topper were in like new condition.
Our son and his wife are now using that mattress.
I can't bring myself to make any claims, when it comes to the toxicity...other than to say that neither my wife and I experienced any negative side effects.
And, we have sold countless numbers of this mattress/latex topper combination over the years...and with zero complaints to show for it.
We promote this sleep system because of the support, comfort and value it provides.
