Body Impressions Warranty Claim, Simmons Beautyrest Black Desiree plush firm mattress.

Janice writes:

Hi Pete,I purchased a Simmons Beautyrest Black Desiree plush firm queen mattress w/ boxspring on 3/5/11 and delivery was on 3/21/11.I am the only one who sleeps in this bed. I've read the warranty and noticed it states that it doesn't cover normal body impressions of 1 1/2' or less. Right now it's at the 1 1/2' level. I needed a firm mattress that would keep it's firmness longer than a few years…much more like 10 yrs. Maybe I'm asking for too much.  I'm disappointed right now with the lack of firmness that this mattress has. I've had to switch from laying on the left side of the bed to the right side. Should I be turning this mattress over to obtain the firmness I'm looking for?

Thanks, Janice

Hi Janice,
I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty.
Since your sustained impression has reached 1.5", simply call where you bought the mattress to initiate a warranty claim.
Once you have authorization to exchange, opt for the "Luxury Firm" instead of the "Plush/Firm" you have now. It's an option that wasn't available a couple of years ago.
Another choice would be the Extra Firm.
In the meantime, you can flip your mattress over, but I'm afraid the underside may be too firm...
...but certainly worth a try, especially since it doesn't cost anything.

My wife and I had the Black Ansleigh in plush/firm. (the later model of the Desiree)
We are large people and have had slept on this mattress for 4 years.
We used a 2" Latex topper with it, which prevented the body impressions that you are experiencing.
After those 4 years, the mattress and topper were, still, in like new condition with no body impressions. This bed is now being used by our son and his wife.

A warranty claim requires an inspection. The inspector will make an appointment with you to come and look at your mattress.
On the day of your scheduled inspection, make sure your mattress is right side up. And, since your impression is at border line depth, place a heavy
rounded object, like a bowling ball, on the indented part of the mattress, the morning of your inspection. Be sure to take it off before answering the door. You don't want to let him see that.
Before calling your retailer, check your mattress for any stains. A stain of any type, anywhere on the mattress will void the warranty.
If you have a stain and can clean it, do so.
If you have a stain and can't get it clean, you might as well not bother calling. A stain will be noted on the inspector's report to the factory and no authorization for exchange will be given.

Certainly, you should expect more than a few of years. 10 years is unrealistic in today's market, with name brand mattresses because of all the memory foam they use.
The only way to get that kind of longevity is by adding a latex topper to your mattress.
Latex is extremely resilient. It absorbs much of your body weight, leave less work for the mattress.
It's what we do at home...all my family and friends have one and we have sold thousands of them
for this purpose. It's the only thing that works for comfort and the value of a 10 year life span.

Once you've gotten authorization to exchange, order a 2" latex topper to use with it from day 1....so that this problem does not repeat itself.
