Sinking, Sagging Serta iComfort Mattress.‏

Hi Pete,
Wondering if you can help with our mattress problems.
We are extremely nervous to buy a new mattress being that we have gone through 3 mattresses in the last 5 years.
From what we have read on your site, we have been pulled into the comfort trap and ended up with mattresses that are comfortable for about a month and then begin sagging causing body pain
everywhere. My wife has her share of back aches and pains but mine are chronic due to a long list of sports injuries and accidents.
Every time we buy a mattress I end up on the couch so that I don't feel like I am sinking into the bed causing my pain to become worse.
I am not even sure what the first two mattresses were but our current one is a Serta iComfort and I found it to sag within no time.
I am on the heavy side around 225 and my wife is smaller around 120.
We have read a lot of great things about latex but are unsure if the best move is to buy an all latex bed or a firm mattress and use a latex topper.
I cannot deal with another sagging, sinking mattress and would appreciate any info/advise/recommendations to lead us in the right direction.
Thank you, Ryan

Hi Ryan,
Sinking, sagging mattresses are a result of the use of memory foam in so many of today's mattresses...including all of the name brands.
Memory foam, along with pillowtops, are Thee things to avoid if you have any expectations of a successful purchase.
Your Serta is among the worst of them, contrary to the recommendations by Consumer Reports. Their studies are being improperly conducted, which has led them to their erroneous conclusions.
For a large man, suffering with multiple injuries, the contouring support of an all latex mattress becomes an iffy choice for proper support.
The safe bet is to go with a firm innerspring that has a strong coil unit and upholstered with high density foams....that do not include memory foam.
If you are up for flipping a two sided mattress that will hold up well, our Therapedic Cameo firm, strikes me as your best option for the support you need...that will remain firm over many years. Add to that, a 2" soft Talalay Latex topper, and you will also have surface comfort that will also remain like new for many years.
Here are links to both products.
