Desperately seeking a mattress that will provide a good night's sleep.

Hi Pete,
Like a lot of people, I am at my wit's end when it comes to buying a new mattress. I've wasted $1,000s of dollars on mattresses that just don't provide me with a good night's sleep.
I've tried traditional (spring) mattresses, but they always seem too hard. Of course, I am afraid to go too soft.
I recently tried a foam mattress, but that is leaving me with sore shoulders, neck and upper arms, and tingling fingers. I mostly feel like I am sleeping in a hole.
I am a side and stomach sleeper. Female. 130lbs, 5'5" tall. My shoulders are wider than the rest of me, which makes it tough for a side sleeper.
My chiropractor suggested not spending a ton of dough on a mattress; expecting it to last only 5 years and going with something out of the hotel collection at Macy's - but those look pricey too.
I am tempted to try something soft - really soft - in a spring mattress.
Thoughts?
Any advice, direction, pearls of wisdom you can provide would be deeply appreciated.
Thanks, Terri

Hi Terri,
That "sleeping in a hole" feeling comes from memory foam. Your numbness, aches and pains are from memory foam, as well.
If you're shopping in stores, all you'll have to choose from, are mattresses upholstered with memory foam.
Memory foam is how the name brand mattress industry gets you to spend thousands of dollars on mattress after mattress.
The manufacturers and retailers are experiencing a boon, while the consumer is getting screwed.
Most people, like yourself, don't know what the problem is. So, to risk redundancy, I'll repeat myself. The problem is the memory foam.
Memory foam is a temperature sensitive material that softens and sinks as it warms from the body heat you emit.
Memory foam will return to its original shape, or close enough to it, when you get off the mattress so that you will not likely prevail in a warranty claim....even though you know that it has lost its support and comfort, it will appear to be fine.
Memory foam sleeps hot. Even gel memory foam, which is supposed to mitigate that, doesn't do the job.
And, as if all that weren't enough, memory foam consists of 61 different chemicals...some, of which, are toxic. And, it off gasses the toxic chemicals from which it's made.
Of all the materials ever used in making a mattress, memory foam is, by far, the absolute worst...from a consumer's standpoint.
For the industry's standpoint, it's the best thing they ever came up with, and they sell it like it's the best thing since sliced bread.
Keep buying mattresses with memory foam in them, and you will not extract yourself from the mattress store's revolving door, in which you find yourself.
Macy's hotel collection has plenty of memory foam in it. To make matters worse, it's an exclusive for that store.
When you buy a mattress that is an exclusive, you can be sure that you've over paid for it.
The quality of mattresses, especially the name brands, have been in dramatic decline for the past 10 years.
Stay away from them. Stay away from the mattress stores that sell them. Stay away from memory foam and pillowtops....and you will finally find yourself in a mattresses that provides support, comfort and longevity.
Memory foam is the worst upholstery material on the planet. And, as with most things, when there is a worst, there is also a best.
Latex foam rubber is the best and has been the best for the last 100 years. It isn't widely used because it lasts too long...and the name brands want you buying new, every couple/few years.
Latex is all natural...no chemicals, no filers, no synthetics, no off gassing. It is not temperature sensitive and does not sleep hot. It cushions you nicely, without allowing you to sink.
The best description for the feel it provides is "Zero Gravity"...a feeling of suspension with all pressure points relieved, all muscles relaxed and your blood flowing easily...all combining  to greatly reduce tossing and turning.
We carry a number of latex products on our website. All Latex mattresses, latex hybrids and latex toppers to go on firm mattresses.
Given your desire to curb your spending, our "Best for the Least" is made by Wolf. Wolf is the oldest mattress manufacturer in the country that is family owned by the same family since established in 1873. The mattresses are uniquely packed and shipped via FedEx, so to keep the cost down.
These two models of their's that we carry, are latex hybrid models. The Adrian using a very strong interlocked coil unit...The Adara using an individually pocketed coil unit...each upholstered with all natural latex.
At your size, either one will work. You are likely to find the Adara more comfortable...as most people sleep better on a pocketed coil unit. The Adrian has a firmer feel.
Here are links to those mattresses and to a video showing the delivery-set-up procedure. Delivery is free and there's no sales tax.
