Luxury Firm & Extra Firm Simmons Beautyrest Flatbrook Mattress.

Could you describe the firmness level difference between the Simmons Beautyrest Classic Flatbrook Luxury Firm and the Flatbrook Extra Firm? I understand the Luxury Firm is rated a level 4 and the Extra Firm is rated a 2, but what does that mean and how do they compare? Also,is either mattress better for side and/or back sleepers?

Hi Pam,

There is no industry standard for this number system. Whenever you see it, you're looking at something that was made up by the person who wrote it.

While the initial intent was to make choosing easier, I have found that it is just that much more confusing.

The two mattresses provide the same degree of firm support. The differ in their surface feel.

The luxury firm model has a comfortable surface feel, while the extra firm model has a noticeably stiffer surface feel.

In terms of longevity, there's no question the firmer mattresses keep their shape better than softer models.

A mattress is a pressure sensitive product and it's wear is in direct relation to the amount of weight placed upon it.

If there is a question concerning a back related problem, the more severe the back damage, the firmer the mattress will need to be.
