Hi Jessica,
The foundation is very important. How well the mattress performs is, in part, due to that which supports it.
However, there is no difference in that support, when comparing a standard boxspring to a Lo-profile model.
The choice is there for convenience of getting in and out of bed.
Over-all, I prefer this foundation...especially for a king size or if supporting heavy weight.
