A good compromise mattress for my wife and I.

My wife and I cannot find a bed that works for both of us. I like a firm mattress and she likes are more plush mattress. We've tried lots of different beds and found a few models that we each like, but we're thinking we may have to buy 2 twin mattresses so that we can each have what we want. The problem is that the beds we liked were at Macy's and we can't find the non-Macy's brand equivalent beds to buy somewhere not as overpriced. The bed that my wife really liked was the Beautyrest Black Whitten pillowtop by Simmons. I really liked the Oceanside Extra Firm. Do you know of the national-brand equivalent for any of those beds? If not, do you have any recommendations about similar beds that would work?
Any advice/help would be extremely welcome. Thanks!

Let me suggest to you that which I believe will be the right balance of firm with a soft top...a compromise, with which, the two of you would be very happy. And, oddly enough, you are in the right ball park. The coil system of the Black is very strong, using a triple strand wire for half of the coils in that mattress.
At Macy's the mattress would be called Edenton luxury firm. We have it as the Ava Luxury Firm...same mattress.
Add to that a 2" soft Talalay Latex foam mattress topper and each of you will be happy. The mattress is firm, but not too firm. The topper, while soft, will not negate the firm support under it. The 2" will be enough for the wife and not too much for you. Here are links to our Simmons Black models and to the latex toppers. Delivery is free and there's no sales tax.
