Back Pain, Best Mattress for a Large Man.

Hello
I am in the process of looking for a new king sized bed.  I currently have a stearns and foster firm mattress.
It is only around 6 years old but is sagging and causing back pain.
I am 6'3" and 350lbs  what do you recommend for someone my size?
Thanks, John

Hi John,

Commercially made, name brand mattresses have declined in quality over the past 10 years...starting when they went one sided.
Over these 10 years, they've added more and more memory foam....designed to make a mattress feel comfortable enough to sell, but using such poor quality products to do it, (like memory foam), that they don't hold up worth a damn...even under average body weight.
Several years ago, we set out to have high quality two-sided mattress made. The people at Therapedic were the only ones that I could find, who were willing to go along.
Their factory was equipped a tufting station. A tufted mattress is, simply, more stable. So, we put together a mattress using the old fashioned large heavy coil, the highest density upholstery material and we had it fully tufted. It came out extremely firm. We then added a layer of soft latex foam to both sides to make the plush version. As plush beds go, it isn't very plush, but certainly more comfortable than the firm model. Latex is the only upholstery material that is both, soft and resilient enough to support your weight over time.
Besides the Keepsake Cameo models, which we designed for the masses, we have the Medi-Coil Permatuft models especially made for much larger people...sporting 300+ lbs.
Since they have been out on the market, more than 5 years now, we have delivered them to countless people all over the country...with a couple of our customers weighing in excess of 500 lbs.
There have been zero complaints. These are firm strong mattresses. If you prefer a softer feel, you only need to add an additional layer of soft latex foam to the top.
Specifically, a 1.5" layer of soft Talalay Latex foam under 1.5" of Dunlop latex foam. Together, the comfort is extraordinary with the Dunlop latex making it extremely durable.
There's no other stores that have them and there's nowhere to try them. There is simply no other long term alternative, when it comes to an innerspring mattress, for folks your size.
Here are links to that mattress and to the all-natural latex foam mattress toppers.

The only other viable option is an all latex mattress. To support someone your size, a latex mattress must have an all-natural Dunlop Latex Foam core....with Dunlop being more dense and more resilient than Talalay Latex Foam....like the Ever-Eden brand of latex foam mattresses shown here:
If going this route, I suggest starting with the 6" all Dunlop model. You may, very well, find it to be comfortable enough. If you want more softness, add the combination of latex toppers recommended for the Medi-Coil mattress.
You can't go wrong with either one. Both will last a whole lot longer than anything else you can buy...providing both: long lasting comfort and support.
