Hi Pete,
I am seriously considering buying a Simmons Comforpedic. I tested it out in a store and it is very comfortable. I like the memory foam aspect of it because it helps my back. I was really hoping to get your thoughts on this mattress. There seemed to be little information or reviews online and I am trying to get an idea of a fair pricing point. I am especially looking for a mattress that will last me a long time in the future. Also do you think it would be more cost effective to buy a spring bed and place a memory foam topper on it? Thanks so much! Ryan
Hi Ryan,
I don't know where you got all these crazy ideas that memory foam was good for your back, or that it would last a long time...nothing could be further from the truth. In short, you are totally misinformed. While the Comforpedic memory foam is far better than any other type of memory foam...much less temperature sensitive with a much quicker response time, it is still not the answer to any sort of back problem. A firm innerspring mattress is what will give you the "push back" necessary to properly support your back.
And, if you are going to soften the surface of a firm mattress, you certainly wouldn't use memory foam. Memory foam sinks through like it wasn't even there and sleeps hot...totally worthless for that job. The only thing that works, long term, is latex. 2" of soft Talalay Latex is what does the best job of supplying the comfort you'll want.
Here are links to the Simmons Beautyrest mattress that we recommend most often for people with back problems...and, to the latex toppers.
