Back Pain, Sciatica, A firm mattress with a soft latex topper

I suffer from occasional lower back/ sciatic pain. I had a discectomy 7 years ago for a herniated disc. I discovered your site after buying a Simmons Beautyrest Madison Avenue Plush queen mattress from Macy's. It felt like laying on a cloud at the store, but I soon discovered I slept miserably in it. Felt like I was sinking and rolling over caused pain. I now went the opposite end of the spectrum and have a Stearns & Foster Ivette Ultra Firm. I like it much better but it is a little hard on my hips/shoulders as I am a side sleeper. I've read about your latex toppers but I'm very Leary of any cushion after my plush mattress problem. Hi Mary Beth,
What you originally bought had two flaws....soft polyurethane foam on top and a very thin gauge wire. 
What you have now, has a much heavier gauge wire and the very firm polyurethane foam. 
Latex has been the most resilient material available for the past 85 years. A 2" soft layer of Talalay latex will give you the soft surface you want without sacrificing the firm support you need.
It works. In fact, it's the only thing that does, long term.
