Hi Monica,
A topper will cushion the surface, but not straighten out the mattress once it has lost its shape. Adding the topper when the mattress is still new, aids tremendously in the mattress not losing it's shape to start...as the topper will do the work and keep its shape, where the poly foams in the top of the mattress fail that job.
You will still benefit from the comfort of the topper and it will retard the further deterioration of the mattress.
Two Twin-XL sets makes sense when the needs of the people are different. They do cost more than a king.
It sounds like your guest bed could also use a topper.

Hi Pete,
Great website - didn't see a search feature, so apologies if any of this is already posted.
We currently own a pillow top with the infamous sagging problem. My husband seems to be able to sleep anywhere on anything, while I feel like the Princess and the Pea in my own bed! I can feel every single saggy curve.
Plus, the mattress was quite expensive, so the idea of buying a new one is inconceivable to him when he is sleeping so great on it. And of course the sagging doesn't measure near enough to trigger warranty replacement.
I love sleeping on our firm guest bed - plus it is without dents or sags (no topper). He thinks it's too firm and prefers our pillow top.
Originally I liked the pillow top, but I think I grew accustomed to the firmer Asian mattresses (w/toppers) while living there, while our current pillow-crap bed was stored. Husband on the other hand, was missing his cushy American pillow top while we were in Asia.
Question: can I use a latex topper over my saggy pillow top in the interim (or even over the reverse side?)? If so, what level of firmness would be best for us?
If I win the battle for a new mattress, which would you suggest we look at? Any thoughts on using two XL twins pushed together to form a King as is common in Europe?
I'm tempted so we could each get the comfort we want.
Him: 6'2 around 210 lbs, back sleeper.
Her: 5'7 around 145 lbs, side and back sleeper.
Thank you in advance!
Monica
