A Cameo plush two-sided Mattress

We are in the market for a new mattress. We purchased a so-called latex mattress that was so hot and horribly unsupportive for the spine that we returned it. Next we tried their Durango firm innerspring. It had deep body impressions within 3 days of sleeping on it. I intend to return that as well. I was reading your site and have learned a lot. and I am curious. The store salesman told us that law now requires mattresses to be one-sided only because of how the fireproof layer is made. Can you shed some light on this for me? Also, we are considering a Sealy Posturepedic. Do you have a recommendation? We looked at them but really have no idea if they will hold up well. We are side sleepers and need good support through the middle to support our spine. Thanks! Michelle


Hi Michelle,Mattresses started going one sided in 2000. All mattresses were one sided by 2003. The fire retardant cover law was enacted in January of 2007. You were fed a line of BS...typical for store salespeople who know very little about their products or the industry, in general.
The two-sided mattresses we had made by one of our local factories...the only factory I could find that was willing to take that step back. I had them made to my specifications and they have been on the market and shipped nationwide for almost 5 years now. They were first test marketed on my in-laws, of which I have many. The first mattress tested was the softest, the Cameo plush. I sent it to our Daughter who 6'1" and over 300 pounds. She still has it and it still looks and feels like new.She does flip the mattress regularly, as you will need to do if you opt for a two sided mattress. It is a quality mattress using a strong coil unit and all the highest density materials available.Sealy changed their line in June of 2011...a complete engineering change. Prior to that, there were many models that we recommended. After the change, I stopped recommending them all together.
