Hi Chuck,
You should be concerned. Your common sense has alerted you. Heed it. 
A pillowtop mattress has an initial comfort that is hard to resist....comfort that just doesn't hold up.
Also, the plush models use a much thinner gauge wire coil, which gives you a greater depth of softness. Both, the thin coil and the pillowtop will combine to create a situation where you'll be needing to replace it in a year's time.

If reading so many complaints about pillowtops isn't enough to make you think again, then you'll simply join the ranks of those who learned the hard way.
Not only are they a waste of money, the physical pain and damage they cause is your greatest sacrifice for the short lived comfort they provide.
To get what you want, opt for the mattress in a luxury firm and add a 2" soft Talalay latex topper for comfort that lasts a very long time.
The heavier wire of the luxury firm model will last much longer and provide better back support.
